The Guarana UI framework has just been launched, with a complete set of ready-to-use components that will definitely be useful to all Web Runtime developers.

It’s now available a Guarana UI online Components Browser, that allows developers to quickly preview and use all the Guarana UI Components.

Soon it will feature tutorials and guidelines on Components usage, testing and customization.

If you have a WRT widget, a new Component or a proof-of-concept built by using Guarana UI, and want to feature it on this page, just drop me an email or a comment on this post.

Current features of SMS TAG include:

• Ability to choose a color for each label
• Text based search of SMS messages (currently, Inbox only)
• Integrated auto-update functionality: widget can update without the need to install a new version
• Integrated SMS forwarding and deleting

SMS TAG is available for free on the OVI Store: download SMS TAG from OVI Store.

The tips are based on my practical experience with both widget runtimes, and could be good to understand the differences between them, and so to port one existing widget from one environment to the other.

Mobilising websites: building a WRT widget for the Forum Nokia website

This week’s featured article, Mobilising websites: building a WRT widget for the Forum Nokia website, is written by Jappit.

With the increasing popularity of widgets, websites can now be experienced as products optimized for mobile devices. The necessary user interaction is kept down to a minimum while the the information is as rich as possible and can be accessed in the most efficient and intuitive way.

This article analyzes the general development process of a widget using the Forum Nokia Community website as an example. From navigation and user interface to obtaining the information and updating the widget, the material does an excellent job of summarizing all the steps required to create the application.

The website offers a simple interface where, filling out some required fields (e.g.: widget’s name, website URL) and optional fields (e.g: widget’s icon) it’s possible to create and immediately download the Web Runtime widget for the desired website.

A widgets’ gallery is also available, to download widgets created and shared by other users.

The service is still in its early development phase, and I’ll be glad to have any kinds of feedback

The Forum Nokia widget allows to easily browse and read latest events, blog posts and discussion boards messages taken directly from the Forum Nokia website.

This first version has support for both touch and non-touch screen devices, with slightly different layouts and interaction depending on the used device.

Future widget’s versions will likely provide greater control over the retrieved and displayed information, and allow users also to post messages on blogs/boards directly from their mobile devices.

The News Ticker component is useful to display informative messages within your Widget, without requiring too much space (and for this reason they’re particuparly suited for mobile devices’ displays).
